Legg's Vinyl Rib Stone

Hook
TMC5262
Thread
6/0 Brown or rusty
Weight
Add a bead to give the fly weight. Use wire if desired.
Antenna
2 brown biots (brown or black rubber legs work well too. I tie with both rubber legs and biots.)
Tail
2 Brown biots
Underbody
Nymph dubbing to add bulk to the body. (You may have to use a fair amount to give the body enough bulk).
Overbody
Vinyl Rib. Change colors to match your region's stoneflies.
Wingcase
2mm brown foam.
Thorax
Gray ostrich herl
Legs
2 rubber legs on either side. Each leg tied in a knot to mimic jointed legs.

The Vinyl Rib Stone was created in November of 2009. It imitates a Giant Stonefly Nymph down to the last detail. The buoyancy of the 2mm foam wingcase is countered by the heavily weighted underbody so it sinks like a rock. The foam traps tiny air bubbles as the fly bounces on the bottom of the river, which in turn attracts fish. Put a smaller nymph behind the VRS and hold on!
