San Juan Worm -Armored Car Version

Tiemco 2457, Size 8
UNI-thread 6/0, Red
3/16” Bead, Brass or Tungsten
Micro Chenille, Red
Ultra Wire Medium, Red

The San Juan Worm is arguably one of the most used and successful patterns for catching carp. Look in any carper’s fly box and you’ll likely find a handful of these bad boys, they are a go-to fly. Coming in many variations, sizes and colors, it is unsure what exactly carp find so appealing with this fly but they are guilty of a love affair with this simple to tie pattern. Carp like this pattern so much in fact, that after catching three or four fish with a single fly, the chenille used to form the body of this pattern often becomes tattered and ragged, nearly falling off the hook. I set out in search of a more durable San Juan Worm one that would hold up to over a dozen fish, have enough weight to get down in moderate river currents, and would still be effective long after the chenille had worn from the body: the wire bodied San Juan Worm -Armored Car Version.
